Lerdge Board Auto-leveling Instructions

 

Lerdge board supports three kinds of leveling modes:
1. Manual leveling the printing platform through 4 points. This mode is simple and intuitive operation. It's suitable for the printing platform with small area and good flatness.
2. Three-points linear leveling mode. It's suitable for the printing platform with large area and good flatness.
3. Multi-points (up to 1024 sampling points) matrix grid non-linear leveling method. It can level the printing platform with large area but bad flatness.


Brief introduction of Lerdge board auto-leveling principles.

Leveling principles of the Three-points linear leveling mode:
The non-collinear three points determines a plane. By sampling the three non-line points on the printing platform, to calculate the plane equation corresponding to the print platform, and according to this equation we can get the space height value of any place on the platform, and based on this value, the system process the leveling. The method is limited to the flatness of the printing platform. If the flatness of the platform is good (for example, glass, mirror, etc.), then this method will have a good leveling effect. (The Lerdge system will automatically calculate the sampling point according to the model parameters.)


Leveling principles of the Multi-points matrix grid non-linear leveling method:
The system divides the printing platform into many small platforms by multipoints. When the small platform segmentation is smaller than the non-linear coefficient, each small platform can be regarded as a linear area. When moving in a single small platform, the height compensation of the print head space is linear, so when the print head execute the movement after leveling, the system will retrieval the measurement data of the four points that around the area where the print head is, and calculate the print head real-time height compensation according to the data, so as to achieve the purpose of leveling the entire printing platform.

The relationship between leveling point and leveling function.

When the leveling point is set to a value less than 3, the auto leveling function will be closed, and the previous auto-leveling data will be cleared. Auto-leveling data no longer affects the Z-axis.

When the leveling point is set to 3, the system uses the 3-point linear auto-leveling algorithm. Actual sampling points = 3 points.

When the number of leveling point is greater than 3 and less than 32, the system uses the multi-point non-linear auto-leveling algorithm. The actual number of detected points is equal to the square of the set value. For example, if set to 4 points, 16 points are actually detected.

Tip: The four points of manual leveling can be used to verify the effect of auto-leveling after auto leveling is complete.

1. Wirings of the film pressure leveling probe and the Lerdge board shows as above: (both positive/negative are ok when wiring.)

2. Click and enter“Model settings”->“Advanced Settings“ -> ”Auto-leveling Settings“

3. Set the X/Y/Z axis probe offset to zero.
4. No need to set the Probe stowed angle and open angle.
5. Set the probe trigger mode to high level trigger.
6. The number of leveling points is set according to the actual machine status. (It's effective  when the value is 3≤Value ≤32.)
Then the film pressure probe and Lerdge board wirings and settings are finished.

  1. Capacitive proximity switch and Lerdge board wiring as shown above (Please use NPN normally open model).
    Please note the capacitive proximity switch power supply selection, some capacitive proximity switches can not work under 5V.

    3. Set the X/Y axis probe offset according to the capacitive proximity switch on the printer assembly position and the print nozzle offset. (Positive and negative are decided according to the printer coordinate system.)
    4. Z-axis Probe Offset: The theoretical setting is 0 (ie, the capacitive proximity switch is triggered when the print nozzle touches the print platform.) If the capacitive proximity switch is triggered before the print nozzle touching the print platform, then set this distance(between the nozzle and platform) as the Z-axis probe offset. If the capacitive proximity switch is still not triggered after the print nozzle touching the printing platform, then please adjust the assembly height of the capacitive proximity switch relative to the print nozzle.)
    5. No need to set the probe stowed angle and open angle.
    6. Set the probe trigger mode as low level trigger.
    7. The number of leveling points is set according to the actual machine status. (It's effective when the value is 3≤Value ≤32.)
    8. For the XYZ and Corexy models, the capacitive proximity switch can be used for both Z axis min limit function and print head leveling probe function. The capacitive proximity switch for the Z axis min limit function. The conditions should be 1. the model is XYZ or corexy;
    2. the Z axis origin is set to min.
    9. Check the "probe for Z axis limit" option in the "limit switch trigger settings". (If not meet the two conditions above, then it will not be able to check this option. After checking, Z-axis homing will use the capacitive proximity switch to trigger. When make the capacitive proximity switch as for the Z-axis limit function, no need to chang the capacitive proximity switch wirings.)

  1. Bltouch and Lerdge board wiring as shown above.
    Please pay attentiopn to the BLTouch power selection, if select the wrong one, it will burn the BLtouch, and may even damage the motherboard!
    2.Click and enter“Model settings”->“Advanced Settings“ -> ”Auto-leveling Settings“

3. Set the X and Y axis probe offsets according to the offset of the BLtouch probe on the printer and the offset of the print nozzles. (Positive and negative are decided according to the printer coordinate system.)
4. Z-axis Probe Offset: The distance between the nozzle and the print platform when the BLtouch is triggered on the heated bed. (This value should always be positive.)
5. Set the probe stowed angle: 90 (If other similar products, for example, the 3D Touch, please test this angle value by yourself).
6. Set the probe open angle: 10 (If other similar products, for example, the 3D Touch, please test this angle value by yourself).
7. Set the probe trigger mode to high level trigger.
8. The leveling point is set according to the actual machine status (must be greater than or equal to 3 points).
8. For the XYZ and corexy models, BLtouch can be used for both Z axis min limit function and print head leveling probe function. The conditions are: 1. the model is XYZ or corexy;

10. Return to the movement interface in the control interface, operate the bottom of the servo control button to see whether the BLtouch probe stowed and open is correct or not.
(left button is to open the probe, the right button to stowed the probe.)

Then the settings for Bltouch and Lerdge board is finished.
After the basic wiring and settings are finished, the next step is to adjust the Z-axis print space according to the actual situation of the machine.


For the first time of automatic leveling operation
1.Click and enter the "Advanced Settings" tab in the Model settings. Set the number of leveling points to 0 in the "Auto-leveling Settings" tab, namely, to turn off the automatic leveling function first. And then adjust the "Z-axis moving distance" in the XYZ model or the Corexy model settings or the "Print height" in the Delta model settings, to make sure there is still about 1mm between the print head and the platform when the print head move to the Z-axis position 0 after homing.

 

2.Click and enter the "Advanced Settings" tab in the model settings, set a value greater than 2 for the number of leveling points in the "Auto-leveling settings" tab. As mentioned above, the actual number of detected points is equal to the square of the set value. The larger the value is (the maximum value is 32, namely 1024 points), the more the leveling prove points are, and the finer the printing platform is divided, the better effect of leveling it will be, especially for a printing platform with significant deformation. Recommended setting is 4, namely 16 points for leveling. The trigger mode of the probe is set to "H"(high-level trigger). The offset of XYZ axes are set to 0. No need to set the open and retract angle of the probe. Exit to the main interface to save the leveling settings.


3.Enter the control interface. If use the pressure leveling probe for leveling, put the pressure leveling probe on the print head. Click the "leveling" tab, the printer will do automatically homing, and then select " Perform Auto Leveling", the printer will automatically calculate the prove positions based on the printing area set, and then it will process the leveling action. After all the prove points are sampled, the printer will finish the leveling data acquisition and will automatically do homing.


4.Click the "Z-axis test", the system will control the print head to move to the center of the print platform, then users can check the leveling effect of the print nozzle in the print center, and then click "leveling the first point", " leveling the second point"," leveling the third point "," leveling the fourth point "to check the leveling effect of the print nozzle around the printing platform. During this process, the users can use the" Z-axis fine-tuning "function to further manual perfect the auto leveling data. Z axis fine-tuning data will be saved, and it will be cleared when next time the users perform the automatic leveling for the printer.

When performing automatic leveling again, just need to repeat the above step 3 and step 4.
